View With Your Crew: Ethan Hawke’s ‘Getaway’
The gritty action/adventure thriller Getaway, due out Aug. 30, stars Ethan Hawke as a former racecar driver desperate to rescue his kidnapped wife. Contrary to early reports, this film is not a remake of the famous Steve McQueen film or the 2002 video game of the same name, although Hawke has admitted that the new Getaway is a nod to classic car chase movies like Bullitt and 1972’s The Getaway. The original storyline has Hawke’s character Brent Magna taking orders from a mysterious villain played by Jon Voight, who is threatening to murder his wife.
Behind the wheel of a Shelby Cobra Mustang with the car’s unwitting owner in tow, Magna is in for a dangerous ride. To make matters worse, he’s being watched carefully by Voight’s character through a camera mounted on the Mustang. To get his wife back, Manga gets help from an unlikely source, a computer-savvy teenaged girl played by Selena Gomez, who is identified in the film only as The Kid.
The talented cast of Getaway includes veteran British actor Paul Freeman (The Bible), Bruce Payne (Dungeons & Dragons) and dark-haired beauty Rebecca Budig, who is successfully transitioning to the big screen from a TV career that included All My Children. The film is being directed by Courtney Solomon and Yaron Levy. Solomon, who is also producing the film, is best known for directing An American Haunting and Dungeons & Dragons.
