Watch the New Trailer for FOX’s ‘Gotham’
The Television Critics Association has dubbed Gotham the “most promising” show of the upcoming TV season. An origin story about the famed city and James Gordon’s rise through the police ranks, the series will debut on the FOX Network at 8 p.m. on Sept. 22.
The show has been one of the most talked about additions to the fall lineup, and it features an impressive cast. Gordon will be portrayed by Southland‘s Benjamin McKenzie, and Donal Logue will play his partner, Harvey Bullock. Jada Pinkett Smith will channel her inner bad guy as the crime lord/nightclub owner Fish Mooney, and we’ll get to see the early makings of some other well known Batman villains like the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) and Catwoman (Camren Bicondova).
“I think that what is cool about this take on Gotham is that you’re seeing the metaphorical break point that plunges [the city] along a downward spiral that will ultimately manifest in people putting on costumes and going out and seeking vengeance or justice,” said McKenzie in a behind-the-scenes clip FOX released for the show.
During a recent interview with the New York Post, Pinkett Smith echoed those sentiments, saying, “It’s an origin story, and we haven’t seen that. We just haven’t seen how Batman came to be, and the Joker and the Riddler, and what the mob families were like during the earlier era of Gotham.”
