‘GTA Online’ Launch Marred by Technical Problems
The online version of the successful Grand Theft Auto V video game, GTA Online, hit the skids just hours after its launch.
Users have reported numerous problems, including “server unavailable” error messages, game freezes and an error that prevents players from completing the game’s first tutorial mission.
On Oct. 2, Rockstar Games announced on its website that server issues on the PlayStation Network and instability across all online platforms is also affecting gamers who had finished the tutorial mission and had progressed into the main game.
The company has temporarily disabled the option to purchase GTA$ Cash Packs—the game’s in-house currency—until the system is running smoothly again. “Players can keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing Cash Packs,” the company said.
Disappointed gamers have reacted to the server problems with frustration. One annoyed player tweeted, “The PlayStation Network still has not allowed me to experience one single moment of GTA Online.”
The company statement continued, “We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this.”
