Watch the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Debut Trailer
The first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy has arrived! The clip, which comes in just over two minutes, provides a good glimpse at the alien goodness that will grace movie screens later this year.
At the beginning of the trailer, we are introduced to Chris Pratt’s character, Peter Quill. Much to Quill’s chagrin, he isn’t a household name in the galaxies just yet. Accosted by guards, he introduces himself as Star-Lord—a title that obviously means absolutely nothing to them. Clearly, the legend is still in the making.
Quill is then taken to a facility run by outer-space police force NovaCorp, where we meet the rest of the team: Drax (Dave Bautista), a madman seeking vengeance following the murder of his wife and child; Gamora (Zoe Saldana), an alien wanted on over a dozen counts of murder; Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), who has picked up a reputation as a car thief; and Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like creature who has been serving as Rocket’s “personal house plant/muscle.”
“They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy,” says John C. Reilly’s character to a NovaCorp officer played by Peter Serafinowicz. “What a bunch of a-holes,” replies Serafinowicz.
It’ll be interesting to see Quill become the leader of this ragtag team over the course of the movie. At the beginning, he doesn’t appear to have mastered the right blend of fearlessness and recklessness. The plot will follow his attempts to band together the rest of the team to save the world and keep an artifact from falling into the wrong hands.
Guardians of the Galaxy will arrive in theaters Aug. 1.
