Rap News Rundown: Gucci Mane, Master P and Consequence
More money, more problems. Rappers continue to feud with each other, and an Atlanta school makes a questionable decision.
Gucci Mane Appears at Middle School’s Career Day
Faculty at Crawford Long Middle School in Atlanta mistakenly thought that enlisting rapper Gucci Mane for their Career Day was a good idea. Parents and the alumni of the school were understandably upset to learn that the southern performer known for lyrics that glorify violence and drugs would be talking to their children about their futures.
Although the school likely chose the rapper because he was someone students would listen to, the decision to choose a speaker who has faced a slew of legal issues, including attempted murder, may not have been wise. During a recent interview, even label-mate Waka Flocka agreed with concerned parents, questioning whether the choice would move children to abandon their education in a short-sighted run for riches and fame.
Master P Denies Dissing Lil Wayne & Kanye West
Master P recently decided against reigniting a war of words with Cash Money. The former No Limit Records head honcho’s new song, “Brick to a Million,” with fellow Louie V Mob members Fat Trel and Alley Boy, seems to take shots at Lil Wayne’s and Kanye’s sense of fashion by pointing out how new tough-guy performers are wearing dresses and riding around on skateboards. But during an interview with Power 106’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood, he denied talking about anyone in specific.
“To be honest with you, that particular song wasn’t about nobody in hip hop, but I think people are taking it like that,” said P, who also added that if anyone wanted to take offense to the record he was “not afraid to address it.”
Consequence Continues to Take Jabs at Pusha T
Consequence has used his newfound fame from Love & Hip-Hop New York as a platform to again open up about his departure from G.O.O.D. Music and his falling out with its leader, Kanye West. The move hasn’t set well with everyone at G.O.O.D., including Pusha T, who sent a shot Con’s way with the message: “Confucius says if a man purchased the very teeth [you] have in your mouth, [you] should never speak ill of that man.” Con responded during an interview by mocking the Virginia rapper’s affinity for coke rap, saying “I would just think that Pusha T is too busy waiting on a boat load of cocaine to be worried about what Confucius said.”
