TRAILER: First Look at ‘H1Z1’ Gameplay
The first gameplay trailer for Sony’s forthcoming zombie MMO H1Z1 has been released.
The clip offers gamers their first look at life inside the survival game. The nice blue sky above belies the horrors below as players struggle to live another day by fighting off zombies and other humans while scrounging up supplies to survive in their makeshift towns.
“If you watch Walking Dead, you will be right at home in terms of the kind of zombies we have and the atmosphere we’re trying to create. We want you to be afraid of the zombies and of other players,” said SOE president John Smedley to GameSpot.
The graphics aren’t all that impressive, but they’ll most likely be upgraded ahead of the release. The free-to-play game will feature a day/night cycle, a weather system and a destructible world, allowing you to destroy buildings and put up your own structures, which can impact the game’s actual architecture. There will also be custom rules voted on by players.
When H1Z1 was announced early last month, Sony said it will feature microtransactions. The company maintains that the things being sold will not be important items like guns, ammo and water.
During a Reddit AMA session in April, Smedley said, “We also want to make sure we have a deep in-game economy that is heavily dependent on crafting. Our goal is to make ours fun, accessible, hard-core and super, super deep. As time goes on, we hope our take on the end of the world by zombie is fun and lots of people get to try it.”
