Halo 5: Guardians will have a release date of Oct. 27. Microsoft and 343 Industries recently released two live-action trailers to promote the title. Check them out below.
Both clips hint at a greater mystery and share the same scenery, but they show two very different realities. In the first, Master Chief approaches a wounded Spartan, who is leaning up against a Master Chief statue, and says, "You've completed your mission Spartan Locke; mine is just beginning."
In the second, Locke approaches Master Chief and hints that he's responsible for the surrounding destruction. "All hail the conquering hero. Let us remember him as our protector, and not the one who gave us this," Locke says. "As our savior, and not our betrayer. Let us see him forever, as you and not as you."
Is there a chance that Master Chief is not the hero we thought he was? With the fifth installment, Microsoft hopes to make us reevaluate the entire series, or at least second guess ourselves for awhile. "We wanted Halo 5: Guardians to be the game that pays off the epic promise of the Halo universe in scope and scale and drama," said Bonnie Ross, head of Microsoft's 343 Industries, in a statement. "We want to amaze players with the sheer size of the worlds and battles they'll experience, even as they question everything they thought they knew about its heroes, marvels and mysteries."
Gamers can watch the mystery unravel ahead of the game's release by visiting a website created for its "Hunt the Truth" campaign.
