The Most Hardcore Snacks in Sports
There’s nothing wrong with going heavy on the protein when you’re bulking up. After catching a STACK colleague in the kitchen with a can of dry tuna topped with yellow mustard, we got to thinking: what are the most hardcore snacks in sports?
You know what we mean. Chicken breast sandwiches with two chicken breasts as the buns. Twelve-egg omelettes prepared with a full pound of turkey bacon. Peanut butter and protein powder on everything—literally, everything.
Even if you haven’t gone to these extremes, you should appreciate our catalog of the most hardcore snacks in sports:
Tuna Out of the Can
Nothing says hardcore like a can of dry tuna, except maybe a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, and you can’t eat a baseball bat. Tuna right out of the can may be extremely dry, but we’ve seen plenty of athletes wolf it down. It’s convenient and packed with protein; and it might have put more student-athletes through college than the Pell Grants.
One Whole Rotisserie Chicken
Nearly every athlete, at one point or another, realizes that an entire chicken, cooked rotisserie style, is available at almost every supermarket in the country for about $5. Grab a knife and fork and go to town after a tough workout. Grunt loudly while eating. Repeat as necessary.
Tuna and Egg Shooters
This STACK original snack gets points for both convenience and creativity. Hardboil some eggs, peel them and cut them in half. Scoop out the yolks and fill each half egg white with tuna. Sprinkle with hot sauce and send them down the hatch.
When Double Meat Goes Wrong
We’re OK with double-meat footlong subs, but TWO footlong subs with double meat? That’s probably pushing things a bit too far. Still, that sandwich surplus has nothing on the guy we heard about at Chipotle who ordered a quad-meat burrito. That is simply too much meat for one person.
DIY Shakes
We’ve even heard of athletes who mix protein powder with liquid egg whites and sip the concoction throughout the day. We’re not saying you should do this. We’re just saying we’ve heard of it.
Turn Your Face Into a Blender
Go all the way to the dark side. Pro wrestler “HHH” once said that he used to pour protein powder into his mouth, sip some water, then shake his head back and forth to mix the “shake” in his mouth. So that wins. That’s the most hardcore snack. Glad we figured it out.
