Here’s a Glimpse at How Presumptive No. 1 NFL Draft Pick Myles Garrett Has Been Training
There are just three weeks until the 2017 NFL Draft, and the hype around Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett has not died down. The 6-foot-4, 272-pound physical specimen showed out at both the NFL Combine and his Pro Day, putting up 33 reps of 225 pounds on the Bench Press, running a sub-6.5 40-Yard Dash and leaping 41 inches in the Vetical Jump. Those numbers are downright stupid.

There is no shortage of video of those aforementioned feats, but what we haven’t seen is how Garrett has been training to produce those absurd numbers—and how he shaped his frame to become one of the most dominant pass rushers in recent college football history. Fortunately, Garrett’s trainer, Travelle Gaines, who also trains guys like Jimmy Butler and other NBA and NFL athletes, was kind enough to post a brief behind-the-scenes video of a recent workout with Garrett, and we broke it down as best we could.
As far as we can tell, these are the exercises that Garrett, who has been training in Texas ahead of the Draft, ran through in the video with Gaines:
- Resisted Lateral Shuffle
- Pull-Ups
- Med Ball Rotational Throws
- Hurdle Shuffle and Stick
- Plank With Single-Arm Raise
- Foam Roller Push-Ups
- Med Ball Split-Squat Throw
- Battle Rope Waves
- Banded Shuffle
- Med Ball Slams
- Kettlebell Upright Row
Most of the workout focused on Garrett’s footwork, upper-body strength and core, all key components of successfully bypassing an offensive lineman to take down a quarterback. Given Garrett’s outstanding physical gifts and dedication to training, it’s hard to imagine the Cleveland Browns passing on him with the No. 1 pick on April 27.
