The narrative of Tom Brady’s uber-healthy lifestyle, which has let him continue to flourish at quarterback despite being 39 years old, has been told to excess, like that song on the radio that’s beautiful at first, then annoying after the 300th time you hear it. Brady’s story is worth multiple retellings, though, because each time you listen, you learn some new, fascinating piece of information about how he keeps himself in the type of shape 20-year-olds would kill for.

Bleacher Report has such a piece on the New England Patriots quarterback, and in it we discover that Brady’s training regimen differs from that of most quarterbacks in that much of it involves resistance bands, the use of which has turned Brady into a physical specimen. From the piece:
Brady’s workout regimen also is nontraditional for a football player. About 90 percent of his training is with resistance bands, and much of it is high-rep. In the off-season, he trains with [trainer Alex] Guerrero six days a week, sometimes twice a day. During the season, it’s three times a day.
Not only does Brady mix up his training, but he’s doing it six days a week, three times per day. And that’s on top of practice, games, film study and everything else that Brady packs into his football-filled life.

Perhaps even more impressive than the amount of work Brady puts in are the results he attains. According to Guerrero, Brady dominates the Patriots pre-season strength, speed and agility tests, which measure how much a player’s athleticism has declined from one season to the next. Brady’s gone the other way. His scores have improved in each of the past three seasons.
So yeah, you’re probably tired of reading another story on how fit Brady is as he nears his 40th year on this Earth. But you’d be hard pressed to say you’re not impressed.
