Here’s Your First Look at the Detroit Lions’ New Uniforms For 2017
On Thursday night, the Detroit Lions became the latest NFL franchise to remix their threads, a big move for a franchise whose uniforms have remained largely unchanged since the team came into existence in 1930. White, silver and “Honolulu blue” have been the team’s color scheme since its inception, and though those same colors remain for 2017, the uniforms get a modern upgrade that officially ushers them into the 21st century.
The Lions helmet gets a new, chrome facemask, and there is no longer a black outline around the blue lion on either side of the helmet. In fact, black, which became a part of the Lions’ color scheme in 2003, has been completely eliminated for 2017. The typeface for both the lettering and numbering on the jersey has been upgraded to emit more of a sleeker feel, and the right sleeve now features the team name, while the left sports the letters “WCF” in honor of the Lions former owner, William Clay Ford Sr.
The cleanest look might be the Lions’ away outfit, with its white jersey, blue numbers and blue pants, but the wildest of the group is the new, all-gray “Color Rush” uni the team will wear during Thursday night games.
All in all, the Lions sport a clean, new look heading into 2017, and they have a pretty talented team to boot. The Motor City is looking as fresh as ever on the football field.
