This Week’s Top Rock Release (Dec. 4)
Hinder will release their fourth studio album this week. Welcome to the Freakshow is the five-piece Oklahoma rock band’s latest attempt to live up to the promise of their debut album, Extreme Behavior. Unfortunately for Hinder, it appears their best days are behind them, as cliché lyrics and paper-thin personas drown out the excellent musicianship.

In a recent interview with Billboard, lead man Austin Winkler revealed that he wrote the album lyrics during “a really, really dark drug binge.” However, any inspiration he may have felt was void of originality. Even with emotional vocals and talented musical accompaniment, the album does not deliver a decent song.
Hinder comes off as a drug-fueled version of Nickelback—and that’s a backhanded compliment. Many still hope the band will recapture their early groove, when they created hits like “Lips of an Angel” and “Better than Me.” However, this project seems like another step in the wrong direction. But if you liked their last album, All American Nightmare, the new one doesn’t stray too far from that formula. Check out lead single “Save Me” and the raunchy “Ladies Come First.”
Later in the month, Green Day and Blink-182 will release their own projects.
