The DIY Athlete: Aloe Vera Sunburn Treatment
Athletes and fans must take protective measures to avoid sun damage during outdoor sporting events. Sunscreen application, long sleeves, hats, and lip balm are all useful tools for protecting the skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays. However, sometimes athletes and fans are careless about taking the steps necessary to prevent sunburns. In those cases, treat a sunburn with aloe vera to enhance the skin’s self-healing properties.
Sunburn Treatment Ingredients
- Washcloth and towel
- Aloe vera gel
- Plastic wrap
- Ice bag
Sunburn Treatment Directions
Wet a washcloth with lukewarm water and gently drape it over the sunburned area. This will cool the burn while gently removing any dirt from the area. Do not rub or scrub the washcloth against the skin.
Remove the washcloth. Spread a thick layer of aloe vera gel over the sunburned area and wrap it with a layer of plastic wrap, then cover it with a towel.
Gently place a bag of ice on top of the towel. This will cool the skin and alleviate the pain. Repeat as needed.
