How Bad Are Tyga’s Financial Woes?
Hip-hop lyrics have always focused on wealth. But in recent times, the stark contrast between the braggadocio rhymes and the reality of rapper life has become more noticeable. Despite bagging an eight-figure payday, 50 Cent has, according to recent news reports, been living beyond his means and is nearly back, in a literal sense, to the status indicated by his moniker. And while fans have been focused on Young Money affiliate Tyga’s controversial relationship with the only-recently-legal Kylie Jenner, another area of his life seems to be creating even more drama—his finances.
Recent news stories about the rapper paint him as the tenant from hell. He was recently hit with a lawsuit by the landlord of his residence in Calabasas, California, alleging that Tyga fell two months behind on his rent. This came just a few weeks after news of a reported $80,000 settlement with another landlord over money owed by the rapper.
Tyga’s lawyer, Lee Hutton, released a statement decrying the latest lawsuit, insisting that the rapper is purchasing the Calabasas home, and indicating that the owner had agreed to waive rental payments while the transaction was in escrow. He said, “We evidently live in a world where a man’s word is no longer your [sic] bond.”
TMZ recently reported that the “Rack City” artist gave Kylie Jenner a red Mercedes G-Wagon, but that the vehicle had previously belonged to Tyga’s baby mama, Blac Chyna. Tyga apparently requested the return of the vehicle to get it repainted red at the dealership. Some believe Jenner’s discovery that she was driving a used car led to Tyga to purchase the $320,000 white Ferrari he gave her during her birthday celebration in L.A.
