Developing powerful and efficient tight turns ensures that a hockey player can change direction effectively and always be in a position to make a play.
Beginner and intermediate players must learn proper sequencing of how to enter into a turn.
Begin by using the hockey stick, followed by the inside leg outside edge and finish with the trailing leg inside edge. Once the hockey stick and inside shoulder have entered the turn, follow by engaging in a deep lunge stance and leaning into an aggressive body angle with the leading foot outside edge. The legs should be in a wide athletic base, body weight equally distributed over both legs. The hips should be in a deep, half squat position, with the hips, knees, and ankles at a position of midextension.
Progress the drill by timing one or two explosive crossovers to exit with as much speed as you entered with.
