All athletes know how important it is to fuel their bodies correctly before and after a game to ensure they can perform to the best of their abilities. But not many athletes know how important it is to refuel during a game. Fueling at halftime is just as important as the pre- and post-game meals.

STACK talked to sports dietitian Leslie Bonci to learn how to refuel correctly during halftime. In the video above, Bonci talks about how you don’t want to eat too much during the break and offers tips on what makes a great halftime snack. The goal is to have something you can eat quickly that provides an energy source. Something like a big sub sandwich is way too much. It would leave you feeling full and slow in the second half.
