Ivan and Jason Reitman Developing Bank Heist Flick

Father and son filmmakers Ivan and Jason Reitman will join forces on a movie about a family of bank robbers.

Filmmaking father and son Ivan and Jason Reitman are teaming up for a big screen dramedy about a very different father and son duo in I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family.

Ivan is producing the film, and his son Jason is both producing and directing. Based on true events chronicled in a Skip Hollandsworth article published in Texas Monthly, the screenplay will be written by bestselling author Nick Hornby (About a Boy).

The story follows a seemingly average Texas family who successfully pull off two daring bank heists before getting nabbed during their third attempt. The family members involved in the crimes are structural engineer Scott Catt, his 20-year-old son and his 18-year-old daughter.

Ivan and Jason Reitman previously worked together on the George Clooney romantic drama Up In the Air. Ivan is one of the most successful filmmakers of our time, having produced and directed the Ghostbusters franchise and, more recently, the Kevin Costner sports drama Draft Day. In the past decade Jason has emerged as a talented filmmaker in his own right, most notably helming Juno and Thank You for Smoking, which he also wrote.

Although Nick Hornby is still best known for his commercially successful and award-winning novels, he has also become an accomplished screenwriter, adapting the 2005 hit film Fever Pitch from his own book. Hornby's also wrote Wild, with Reese Witherspoon, which was released Dec. 5, 2014.
