Indians Catcher Roberto Perez’s Blast Was the Hardest-Hit Home Run off Jon Lester During the Playoffs
All season long, the Cleveland Indians endured a lack of production from their catchers. Their starter, Yan Gomes, had a miserable year, hitting a measly .167 before dislocating his shoulder in July. His backup, Roberto Perez, broke his thumb a few weeks into the season, then hit just .183 with three home runs when he returned. The Indians navigated their way to the World Series anyway, and Perez has had an awakening during the 2016 post-season.

Perez already has three home runs during the playoffs, capped by the two dingers he hit against the Chicago Cubs in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night. The first, a laser beam blast off Cubs ace Jon Lester was the hardest hit ball off Lester this season and the hardest hit ball of the entire post-season.
Traveling at a blazing speed of 113 mph, Perez’s fourth-inning jack barely made it over the wall in left field, clanging off the railing that prevents people sitting in the first row of seats from tumbling over the wall. It put the Indians up 3-0. His second blast added insult to injury, giving the Tribe a robust 6-0 lead. That was the final score, and the immense power of a little known catcher is what Indians fans have to thank for it.
