Watch the New Trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’
The upcoming big screen thriller Inherent Vice, based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel by the same name, features a star-studded cast headlined by Joaquin Phoenix. Paul Thomas Anderson directed the film.
Set in the raucous 1970’s, this detective drama, an interesting blend of classic noir and psychedelic romp film, follows pot-smoking private eye Doc Sportello (Phoenix) as he investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. The movie is full of twists and turns, and it showcases a bevy of imaginative, offbeat characters. From surfers and rockers to a murderous loan shark and the mysterious Golden Fang, these colorful figures are as exciting as the big-name actors who portray them.
The cast includes Hollywood heavyweights Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro and Martin Short, along with newcomers Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Boardwalk Empire’s Katherine Waterston.
Anderson wrote the adapted screenplay. His long list of motion picture credits include the 2007 Oscar Award-winning film There Will Be Blood, which he directed and adapted for the screen from Upton Sinclair’s novel Oil!.
Inherent Vice will hit select theaters on Dec. 12 before being released nationwide in January.
