TRAILER: Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix Headline Woody Allen’s ‘Irrational Man’
Emma Stone (Birdman) and Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line) star in the upcoming film Irrational Man, written and directed by Woody Allen.
The movie centers on troubled, alcoholic philosophy professor Abe, played by Phoenix, whose life is turned around by his student Jill (Stone). Suddenly, Abe, who has been going through an existential crisis, regains the will to live and becomes a happy, upbeat, vibrant man, apparently due to his relationship with the bright and beautiful Jill.
The theme of a brainy, neurotic older man finding happiness with a captivating younger woman is nothing new in Woody Allen’s films. He has been exploring this territory at least as far back as Annie Hall (1977).
The cast also features Parker Posey (Granite Flats), Jamie Blackley (If I Stay), Meredith Hagner (We’ll Never Have Paris), Ethan Phillips (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Ben Rosenfield, last seen in the crime drama A Most Violent Year.
Producing the film is Allen’s sister Letty Aronson, along with his other frequent collaborators Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson.
Irrational Man arrives July 17.
