J. Cole Releases Free EP ‘Truly Yours’
J. Cole has released a free EP entitled Truly Yours. The unexpected gift to fans contains five tracks that did not make the final tracklist of his upcoming sophomore album, Born Sinner.
In a letter posted on his official website, the Roc Nation MC warns fans that the songs are still in “their raw form, no polish.” But that doesn’t mean they aren’t up to par. During the recording of his upcoming LP, Cole “recorded at least 4 albums worth of material,” and these are simply some of the tracks that didn’t fit the sound or theme that he was aiming for.

Born Sinner, which was originally slated for Jan 28 release, was pushed back earlier this year. Although it’s currently without a shelf date, Cole plans to release the lead single this week. “The album is hands down my best work yet,” boasted the rapper in his statement to fans after thanking them for their patience.
Fans may remember, the North Carolina performer announced the album back in November during a UStream chat. He posted a clip of an altar boy announcing the release via several posters inside a church while the hymn “Never Alone” played in the background.
The forthcoming album will feature heavier subject matter. “[It will detail] the story of corruption—corruption of an artist when commercial appeal is involved, or corruption of a relationship when temptation is involved, or corruption of a government when capitalism is involved,” explained Cole during an interview with Billboard.
