John Travolta Thriller ‘Criminal Activities’ Coming Soon
John Travolta headlines the upcoming big screen thriller Criminal Activities. In this film, which co-stars Dan Stevens (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb), four friends unexpectedly get mixed up in the world of crime, when a “sure thing” investment prompted by an inside tip goes south. The quartet suddenly find themselves in mortal danger when they learn that a notorious crime boss put up a portion of their funding, and it’s time to repay the loan. The friends’ chances of survival depend on their ability to kidnap a family member from a rival kingpin, which if successfully carried out, would erase their debt to the mobster.
The cast also features Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire), Rob Brown (Don Jon), Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist), Jackie Earle Haley (Lincoln) and Christopher Abbott (the TV series Girls).
In addition to his onscreen role, Haley is also making his directorial debut with this picture. The screenplay was written by the late Robert Lowell.
It was announced earlier this year that Image Entertainment picked up the North American rights to this low budget flick. The CEO of Image Brands, Mark Ward, described it as “a smart, witty extremely commercial thriller with elements of Boiler Room and Reservoir Dogs and an ending you don’t see coming.”
Travolta is currently filming the TV series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, in which he portrays celebrity lawyer Robert Shapiro. The show premieres next year along with two of Travolta’s big screen projects, I Am Wrath and the western In a Valley of Violence.
Criminal Activities heads to theaters on Nov. 20.
