John Wall has ended his sponsorship deal with Reebok in order to work for the brand’s parent company, adidas. Speculation about the switch began last week when Wall was spotted wearing adidas shoes during the a Washington Wizards practice session at the Verizon Center. While he admitted that he was in the midst of reviewing different sponsorship options, it wasn’t clear he’d made a decision.
In the announcement, Wall thanked Reebok, which released his third signature shoe, Season 3 ZigEscape, late last year. “I’ve enjoyed my time with Reebok and I’m grateful for everything we accomplished the last few years,” said Wall. “Now, I’m excited to return to the court soon and begin my new partnership with adidas. They’ve changed the game with new technology and style, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Lawrence Norman, an adidas VP, commented on the signing, saying “we’re excited to partner with John to continue to develop new innovative products and grow our brand and business.”
After the news broke, rumors circulated that Reebok was abandoning its basketball endorsements. But Todd Krinsky, head of Reebok classics and basketball, released a statement denying that the brand had any plans to leave basketball. He said, “Basketball remains an important category for Reebok. We have a long and very successful heritage in the sport, which provides us with a unique point of view and place in the category. In the near future, we will announce new additions to our basketball roster, who we feel best represent the direction of the style-driven performance basketball business.”
Wall joins an adidas lineup that already includes NBA stars Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard and Ricky Rubio.
