Johnny Depp Noir Thriller ‘London Fields’ Picked Up by Lionsgate and Grindstone
Lionsgate and Grindstone have acquired the feature film adaptation of Martin Amis’s 1989 novel London Fields. This noir crime thriller stars Johnny Depp and is set in London during bleak days. Depp’s off-screen wife, actress Amber Heard (Magic Mike XXL), plays Nicola Six, a promiscuous psychic who foresees her own murder. She becomes romantically involved with three distinctly different men, including one she recognizes as her future killer. Billy Bob Thornton (Entourage; Friday Night Lights) plays a terminally ill writer who has come to London on a mission for one last story, as the city is engulfed by crisis with local revolts in streets.
The film also stars Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns), Theo James (Divergent franchise), Jim Sturgess (Stonehearst Asylum), Jaimie Alexander (Thor: The Dark World), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter franchise) and Gemma Chan of the TV series Humans.
The screenplay was written by actress turned screenwriter Roberta Hanley, who wrote the Sarah Michelle Gellar drama Veronika Decides to Die, released earlier this year.
The film was directed by Mathew Cullen. London Fields marks his feature film directorial debut. Cullen is known for directing the Katy Perry: California Gurls video.
London Fields was scheduled to debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but it was pulled from the lineup due to a legal dispute involving Cullen and the film’s producers. A release date has not yet been announced for the U.S..
Depp can currently be seen in the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass.
