Journey to Super Bowl XLV—Woodley vs. Hawk Episode III: Core Power
In this third and final episode of Woodley vs. Hawk [view Episode I: Strength and Power Training and Episode II: Speed Kills], we show you the off-season core training performed by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley and Green Bay Packers linebacker AJ Hawk. Their training will be put to the test today, Feb. 6, at Super Bowl XLV.
Woodley and Hawk constantly face opponents who try to physically dominate them. Yet both linebackers consistently shut down offenses with their ability to shed blockers and wrap up ball carriers. Both apply maximum strength while maintaining balance to make powerful tackles. The strength required to do so is transferred from the lower body through the core to the upper body, which makes core strength crucial for success. Although their training methods differ, their goal is the same—to build a stronger core for increased full-body explosive power.
The anticipated matchup between the two former college rivals—Woodley from Michigan and Hawk from Ohio State—is a storyline to watch as the Steelers and Packers go at it for the ultimate NFL victory. May the best linebacker win.
