‘Jurassic World 2’ Announced
It’s official, Jurassic World 2, a sequel to the mega blockbuster that premiered in June, is in the works. Given the huge success of the latest film, the news comes as no surprise. The sequel will hit theaters on June 22, 2018, almost exactly three years after the current release.
Popular leading man Chris Pratt will return, as will co-star Bryce Dallas Howard. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow will executive produce, but he is not expected to return as director. At least one of the screenwriters, Derek Connolly, is on board to write the script. Frank Marshall will return to produce, with Steven Spielberg again serving as executive producer.
The only negative factor in the news is how long fans have to wait. Jurassic World broke several records when it debuted, and it now ranks as the No. 3 domestic release of all time.
It’s been 22 years since the original film, Jurassic Park, based on Michael Crichton’s novel, hit theaters. The franchise has spawned many projects in the last two decades, including last year’s Jurassic City.
