Keanu Reeves stars as an ex-hitman gunning for revenge in the upcoming crime thriller, John Wick. The title character (Reeves), who previously made a living as a professional killer, has the tables turned when a contract is put out on him and he is targeted by an old friend. He comes out of retirement to hunt down the gangsters who killed the people closest to him.
The cast is peppered with exciting and prominent actors, including: Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter movies), Bridget Moynahan, William Dafoe, and Adrianne Palicki (G.I. Joe: Retaliation).
In an MTV set interview, producer Basil Iwanyk talked about why Palicki was added to the film. “We kind of realized our only female character dies on page three,” he said. “So why don’t we have this character Mr. Perkins be Ms. Perkins?”
Far from being a token female in this action flick, Palicki has some impressive moves and seems to be a match for Reeves. Her character is actually John Wick’s chief nemesis. The actress was surprised by how much punishment Reeves can take, remarking: “He’s like a masochist. Totally. He loves it.”
The screenplay was written by Derek Kolstad, whose most recent work includes the 2012 action movie, The Package. The film was directed by well-known stunt coordinators David Leitch and Chad Stahelski.
John Wick opens in theaters nationwide on Oct. 24.
