Nike Reveals Kevin Durant's KD V
Over the weekend, Nike revealed Kevin Durant’s fifth signature shoe, the KD V. (In case you forgot, check out Durant’s shoe from last year, the KD IV.) Drawing inspiration from Durant’s journey as a basketball player, the new design focuses more on performance than previous models.
The forefoot of the shoe uses Nike Zoom technology, and the heel is fitted with a Nike Air unit. Style-wise, the Hyperfuse mid-cut body ditches the Adaptive Fit Strap. An external heel counter provides ample support during movement.
According to Nike, the number five played a role in the shoe’s creation, echoing the five points of a star and the five players on a basketball team. (Catch up on KD’s style with The Look: Kevin Durant’s Nerd Chic.)
Nike will release the KD V on Nike ID on November 6, a little over a month before its December 8 retail release. Initially, the shoe will be offered in two colorways: Bright Crimson—a red, yellow, and black mix in tribute to Maryland’s state flag; and Road—a mix of black and blue. However, as with prior editions, a myriad of colorway options will be made available throughout the NBA season.
Nike’s announcement does not mention price, but the KD V is expected to break with tradition and cost more than $100.00.
Like the LeBron X and the Kobe VIII, once it hits stores, the KD V will also be featured on NBA 2K13.
