‘Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix’ Confirmed
Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix will launch globally sometime in 2014 for the PlayStation 3. The collection of games from the popular franchise will include Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, and HD cutscenes of Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. The Final Mix versions of the first two games were originally exclusive titles in Japan, and their appearance in this compilation is their first North American release. Re:coded is a Nintendo DS game, and its unplayable cinematic scenes will be featured in the release.
This new compilation came about due to the success of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix, featuring the games Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories, released back in September.
The popular action role-playing franchise is a mash-up of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series with Disney movies and characters—meaning Donald Duck and Goofy can run into Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. The first game of the series was released back in 2002 and has since spawned six more titles, mostly on handheld systems.
Series producer Shinji Hashimoto has also announced Kingdom Hearts III is in development, but at the moment there is no release date. As IGN reports, “the fact that Tetsuya Nomura needs to split his time between Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV means the climax of the saga may still be some way off.”
The original announcement for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix can be found on the official Playstation blog.
