Kit Harington Stars in WWI Drama ‘Testament of Youth’
The sweeping World War I film Testament of Youth features a cast that includes Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Colin Morgan (Humans) and is based on the bestselling World War I memoir by Vera Brittain.
Vera, a young British woman, is a promising scholar at Oxford with a bright future, during the early 20th century. When war breaks out, Vera’s fiance and friends go off to fight on the French front. She is prompted to leave her studies and enlist as a nurse, but nothing could prepare her for the horrors she witnesses firsthand. Her experiences eventually cause her to speak out against war.
Talented newcomer Alicia Vikander plays Vera. She is best known for the newly released sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. Harington stars opposite Vikander in the role of Vera’s fiance, Roland Leighton. The cast also features Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter film franchise), Emily Watson (The Theory of Everything), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Dominic West (Johnny English Reborn), and Hayley Atwell, whose most recent work includes Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The film was directed by David Kent, who is mainly known for his television work, directing miniseries like The White Queen for Starz. The screenplay was written by Juliette Towhidi, best known for the big screen comedy Calendar Girls and the miniseries Death Comes to Pemberley.
Testament of Youth opens June 5.
