Larry Fitzgerald Takes on EAS's Unstoppable Tour
EAS, a leader in performance fuel products, created a unique challenge to show how proper sports nutrition can help make an athlete unstoppable. They chose one ultra athlete to take on 30 different sports on 30 consecutive days in 30 different cities across America.
Last week, we met the person EAS picked for the challenge: Lieutenant Commander Sam Tickle, a former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot. This week, we get an inside look at one of those 30 days.
On day 19 of the Unstoppable Tour, Tickle met up with one of EAS’s athlete endorsers, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver and five-time Pro Bowl selection Larry Fitzgerald. Tickle found himself on a football field with Fitzgerald, facing a typical day of NFL training.
Fitzgerald and former linebacker/special teams player Barry Gardner put Tickle through a crash course, including drills testing maneuverability, flexibility, speed and conditioning. Fitzgerald said, “His conditioning was great. I’ve seen a lot of professional athletes quit after that [conditioning] drill, and he pushed right through like it was no problem.”
After an intense training session, recovery with safe, effective and reliable sports nutrition products is crucial. With EAS’s NFL/NFLPA Sports Nutrition Label Certification Program [more info available here], athletes can rest assured. “I know that every time I take an EAS product, I can take it, enjoy it and there are definitely no ramifications that will come back,” Fitzgerald said.
At last week’s Unstoppable Tour event in New York City, Fitzgerald took a timeout with STACK to discuss the importance of nutrition in sports training. He said, “I’m very conscious of what I put in my body on a daily basis. I know that what I put in my body, I’m going to get out of it, and that’s why I take it very seriously.”
Fitzgerald achieves optimal nutrition with the help of a nutritionist, a diet plan and a chef. “We all work together as a team to try to make me as strong as possible,” he said.
Fitzgerald pays particular attention to proper recovery after killer workouts, like the one Tickle performed. He says that post-activity nutrition is top priority for him. “Your recovery is essential for your workout the next day,” he said. “If you don’t recover right today, you’re not going to be ready for tomorrow. I make sure I’m hydrated. I have enough protein and vitamins so I’m able to be as strong tomorrow as I was today.”
