It’s almost unfathomable to think that LeBron James, perhaps the most indestructible player the NBA has ever seen, has never played all 82 regular-season games at any point in his 15-year career. The closest he came was the 2008-2009 season, when he appeared in all but one regular-season game before eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Whether he’s missed a few games to deal with a minor injury early in his career or sat out the second night of a back-to-back later on, LeBron has never reached the 82-game plateau. Now, at age 33, he finally has a chance to do it.

LeBron will play in his 81st game tonight when the Cavs take on the New York Knicks, and if he escapes said game without mishap, he will have a chance to play in at least part of the regular-season finale Wednesday when the Cavs once again take on the Knicks. If he does, it would be just another incredible feat for a man who is playing the best basketball of his career at a time when former superstars usually start to lose their athleticism.

“We’ll see how tonight goes,” James told ESPN. “I’ve been telling you that for the last four weeks. So, my mindset is focus on tonight and if I come out healthy, I’ll be available for Wednesday. That’s all that matters for me.”

As chaotic as this Cavs season has been, LeBron James remains a constant.
