James’s latest philanthropic gesture involves helping teammate Dahntay Jones cure a financial hiccup.
James offered to pay the $80 fine Jones got hit with by the league for hitting Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo in the groin during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Jones was also suspended without pay for Game 4 on Monday night. The Cavs lost Game 3, 99-84, their first loss of the playoffs.
The Cavs picked up the 35-year-old Jones just prior to the end of the regular season. He hasn’t played much, averaging 2.9 minutes per game in the playoffs.
Jones acknowledged that James is a great guy. Although the fine represents a tiny fraction of Jones’s NBA veteran salary, James’s generous nature was evident off as well as on the court. He and the Cavs will need to return to top form to beat the Toronto Raptors tonight.
