LeBron James Uses ‘The Hunger Games’ to Motivate Himself Through a Workout
The Cavs take on the Detroit Pistons tonight, but that didn’t stop LeBron James from getting after it in the gym the night before he will look to push the Cavs’ record to a robust 9-2. Though the videos he posted to his Instagram story didn’t show much of the workout (though you can be sure LeBron’s favorite toy, the VersaClimber, was involved), it did give us a peek at some of the visual motivation LeBron uses to power himself through a night of intense training.

James has long referenced his love of movies as a source of inspiration. During this summer’s NBA Finals, he spoke of watching one of his favorites, The Godfather, to motivate himself to help the Cavs become the first team ever to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. We all know how that worked out. So when he needed help finishing his training session, LeBron turned to Katniss Everdeen and The Hunger Games.
Playing on a jumbo screen on the wall behind LeBron was one of the Hunger Games movies, with Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen front and center when LeBron snapped this picture. We’ll momentarily forgive LeBron for calling her “Cattiness.”
This isn’t the first time LeBron has shown his love for the insanely popular book series by Suzanne Collins, the source of four Hollywood blockbusters. In 2012, when he was a member of the Miami Heat, LeBron was photographed sitting in the locker room reading one of the Hunger Games books ahead of a playoff game against the Indiana Pacers. Since then, LeBron has won three NBA championships, so it seems like the odds have been in his favor.
