Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson Headline ‘The Duel’
Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson are teaming up for the big screen western thriller The Duel, formerly known as By Way of Helena. The intriguing storyline follows a strange and complex murder investigation with unexpected consequences. The project is part of a western resurgence that kicked off last year with Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and The Revenant.
According to Indie Wire, Hemsworth plays a “Texas Ranger who investigates a series of murders in a small town led by a charismatic preacher played by Woody Harrelson. However, the routine undercover investigation soon turns personal for the ranger who must solve the case before he loses everything to the mysterious town.”
The cast also includes Emory Cohen (Brooklyn); Christopher Berry (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes); Alice Braga (Elysium); Jose Zuniga (The Call); and William Sadler of TV’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The picture was directed by Australian filmmaker Kieran Darcy-Smith, best known for another mystery drama, 2013’s Wish You Were Here. The screenplay was written by Matt Cook, who had his feature film debut earlier this year with Triple 9.
Liam Hemsworth has starred in a wide range of action films, but The Duel is his first real western. This is a big summer for the actor, whose highly anticipated sci-fi adventure sequel Independence Day: Resurgence is premiering in June. Woody Harrelson is busy filming War for the Planet of the Apes, which is one of eight movies Harrelson has debuting between now and the end of 2017.
The Duel hits theaters on June 24.
