Lil Wayne Joins TIDAL, Drops New Song
Amid all the chaos surrounding his label and his latest album, which seems stuck in purgatory, Lil Wayne continues to make business moves.
The New Orleans native has joined Jay-Z’s music streaming company TIDAL as a co-owner. To commemorate the venture, Wayne released a new song. On the five-minute track, the first release off his upcoming Free Weezy album, Wayne reminds fans how he was able to remain at the top of the rap game for the better part of the past decade. His braggadocio raps on “Glory” are matched by an impressive beat from producers Avenue Beats, Infamous and Onhel.
“We’re honored for Lil Wayne to join TIDAL,” said an exec via press release. “His eagerness to release an exclusive TIDAL track and schedule a TIDAL X performance is just another example of how passionately artists care about getting their music to fans.”
Weezy’s decision to release the track via the music streaming service has sparked rumors that his entire mixtape may be released exclusively by TIDAL. It’s not official yet, but he dropped a hint about future material coming through the company. “TIDAL is a great way to share music directly with fans,” he said. “I’m hyped for people to hear my latest track and can’t wait to show fans love through a special TIDAL X.”
Is the promise of an exclusive Lil Wayne performance enough to lure you over to the streaming service? Led by rapper Jay-Z, the company has taken a beating in the media recently after struggling to overcome a flawed launch and deflecting attacks from other companies. It recently announced plans to offer discounted subscriptions for students and a desktop player for both Windows and Mac.
