Tom Hiddleston Confirms Loki’s Absence From ‘Avengers’ Sequel
Although director Joss Whedon has already mentioned Loki’s absence from the forthcoming Avengers sequel, it doesn’t hurt to hear it from the man himself, right? Recently, actor Tom Hiddleston confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the fan-favorite villain will not return. But Hiddleston also revealed he wasn’t necessarily upset about the development.
“When I think of all the things I loved as a child, for example, Hans Gruber wasn’t in Die Hard 2. And in Indiana Jones, by the time he moved from the Lost Ark to the Temple of Doom, there was a whole new bad guy,” said Hiddleston. “I think keeping it fresh and new is good for The Avengers, even though it’s a shame for me.”
With the additions of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, there may not have been enough room for Loki. “And let’s face it, there’s seven or eight of them as it is,” continued the actor. “And Joss is thinking about adding two more, so the screen’s gonna be a busy place. But I had the time of my life on that film. It was the most fun ever.”
Fans will still be able to catch Loki on the upcoming Thor sequel, The Dark World, when it reaches theaters this winter. And according to Hiddleston, he’ll play a substantial role in the film. “I’ve got plenty to do in [The Dark World], believe me,” he said. “It’s a new development. Another trick, another poker game for the god of mischief. And he plays it well.”
The Dark World will premiere on Nov. 8, 2013. Check out the new trailer.
