Watch the Final Trailer for Johnny Depp’s ‘The Lone Ranger’
The final trailer for the upcoming Johnny Depp movie, The Lone Ranger, has been released. In under three minutes, the clip gives fans a preview of the relationship between Armie Hammer’s John Reid/the Lone Ranger and Depp’s Tonto.
“From the great beyond, a vision told me a great warrior would help me on my quest. One who has been to the other side and returned,” narrates Tonto at the start. The Ranger agrees to partner with the Spirit Warrior under one condition: “If we ride together, we ride for justice.”
As the two set off to hunt down the man responsible for killing Reid’s brother, they fight against greed and corruption surrounding the gold rush. Businessmen are anxious to build a transcontinental railroad, and they won’t let anyone stand in their way.
Disney spared no expense for the stunts. The budget for the western is believed to be north of $200 million. Clearly the hope is that audiences will take to this movie as they did to the Pirates of the Caribbean series, which also starred Johnny Depp. The studio even tapped Gore Verbinski, the director behind the fantasy adventure franchise, to lead this film. It remains to be seen whether young viewers will be drawn to a character based on The Lone Ranger radio serial from the 1930s and the TV series from the fifties.
Ruth Wilson, William Fichtner, Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Wilkinson also star in the film, which will premiere on July 3.
