Channing Tatum Returns This Summer for ‘Magic Mike XXL’
Channing Tatum is back as popular stripper Magic Mike in the highly anticipated sequel Magic Mike XXL, which continues the story that began in the 2012 hit film. XXL will reportedly center on a sort of last hurrah for the veteran striptease artists before they move on.
In a statement, the filmmakers described the plotline: “Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them.”
As with the first movie, Tatum is one of the producers. However, this time around he also co-wrote the screenplay with Reid Carolin, who penned the original.
Other actors returning for this installment include Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Gabriel Iglesias, Kevin Nash, and Adam Rodriquez. There are also a number of exciting additions to the cast such as Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect franchise), football player-turned broadcaster Michael Strahan, Amber Heard (3 Days to Kill) and Donald Glover of TV’s The Ultimate Spider-Man.
Directing the film is Gregory Jacobs, who served as the first assistant director on Magic Mike.
Magic Mike XXL hits theaters nationwide July 1.
