Rap News Rundown: Maino, iLoveMakonnen, Ray J, Tyga, Drake
Maino Arrested For Assaulting Porn Star
Maino was arrested on Oct. 23 for allegedly assaulting a porn star outside a New York nightclub earlier in the week. Mellanie Monroe claims that during the wee hours of Oct. 21, the rapper punched her in the stomach and ribs and kicked her while they were inside his car before cops on the scene helped her out of the vehicle. She then reportedly threw a hairbrush at the car and tussled with the N.Y. rapper’s security guard as she grabbed for a champagne bottle in his hand, and during the struggle struck her head on the pavement.
Maino is charged with misdemeanor assault. His reps have since denied he even knows the adult star.
iLoveMakonnen Attacked During NYC Concert
iLoveMakonnen, who is currently riding high off the success of his hit single “Tuesday,” was attacked while performing last week at SOBs in New York City. A fan made his way onto the stage, wrestled the rapper to the floor, and reportedly got in a few punches before running off. The rapper’s crew gave chase, but it’s unclear whether the attacker was ever caught. According to TMZ, the police were not called.
Troy Ave and his BSB team have had a beef with the OVO rapper in the past and were rumored to be involved, but they have distanced themselves from the incident. “It’s just wack that any time something negative happens now, they think of us. People are going to believe what they will, but BSB had nothing to do with that,” said BSB co-CEO Hylton during a recent interview.
Ray J Attacks Tyga Over Kylie Jenner Rumored Relationship
Last week we reported that Lil Wayne was allegedly blocking Tyga’s efforts to release new music due to his rumored relationship with 17-year-old Kylie Jenner. It now seems that Wayne is not the only person who has an issue with the budding romance. After a recent run-in with TMZ in L.A., Ray J offered this unsolicited advice to the Young Money rapper: “My girl like Blac Chyna, so Tyga need to get back with Blac Chyna. He needs to stop [messing] with little kids. Trust me, if he wanna [mess] with a Kardashian, he need to do it the right way. Believe that.”
Tyga Further Distances Himself From Young Money
While most of the criticism is focused on him, Tyga is also dishing some of his own. During an interview with Vibe, he revealed he doesn’t really get along with Young Money’s Drake and Nicki Minaj.
“I’m tryna go independent. I don’t really get along with Drake. I don’t really get along with Nicki Minaj,” Tyga said. “I think being signed to Young Money, everybody felt like they had to force a relationship ’cause Wayne put us together. At the end of the day, the reason I signed to Young Money is because of Wayne. Not because of Drake, not because of Nicki.”
He went further, adding, “I don’t like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me. I like his music, you know what I’m saying? I think his music is good, but we’re all different people. We were forced together. I try to be cool with everybody, but sometimes, everybody just has different personalities.”
