Flash, Doomsday, Metallo, Nightwing Rumored for ‘Man of Steel 2’
New rumors surrounding Man of Steel 2 suggest that audiences will be introduced to the Flash, Nightwing and villains Doomsday and Metallo.
Variety first reported the possibility that the Flash would join the cast, stating on its website, “It’s unclear which members [from the Justice League will be in the movie], but Wonder Woman and the Flash are said to be locks to appear in some fashion, whether that’s a significant role or a cameo.”
Flash was introduced on the CW series Arrow recently and his appearance there might increase his chances of being included in the movie. Of course, the obvious reason for his presence would be to introduce more members of the Justice League. Many are calling for his story to intertwine with the CW show, but executive producer Greg Berlanti denied being involved with any plans to make that happen. He said, “We haven’t had any of those conversations other than to say, what characters are we allowed to use this year? . . . And every now and then, they’ll say, ‘You can’t have that guy.’ They don’t say why, and we figure out why later on.”
WB producer Daniel Alter, who is not involved in the movie, tweeted several hints regarding Doomsday’s role in the film. He did report that Wonder Woman would be involved in the flick before it was officially announced; but it’s hard to understand why WB would introduce such an important character this early. The super villain, who once succeeded in killing Superman, would fit better in the forthcoming Justice League movie. Maybe the studio will merely hint at his existence as a lead-in for more movies, similar to the way Marvel teases Thanos.
There are also reports that the villain for the movie could be Metallo. Actor Callan Mulvey (Zero Dark Thirty) is supposedly being considered for the role. He could be used as a vehicle to bring Lex Luthor and LexCorp to the forefront, if he is introduced as a creation of the business magnate. But this isn’t the first time Metallo has been rumored to be involved in a Superman film. According to reports, he was also attached to Man of Steel.
Nightwing seems like the most likely character to join the film. His rumored presence is bolstered by Batman’s involvement. It would be reasonable for Dick Grayson, Batman’s one-time Robin, to appear in the film in some capacity. Adding credibility to this gossip is WB’s recent filing for a trademark on the term “Nightwing.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio is known for filing legal docs soon after they decide to pursue a project.
It’s all conjecture for now; we’ve still got some time before the plot and cast for the movie are revealed. Batman vs. Superman will be released July 17, 2015.
