After releasing a few low-energy teasers for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel, Warner Brothers has pulled out all the stops for the final trailer. The clip, which lasts just over three minutes, takes us through the destruction of Krypton, Clark Kent’s formative years with his adoptive father Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and his eventual evolution into Superman.
The trailer shows a young Clark rescuing schoolchildren from a sinking bus and finding himself an outcast because of his powers. “I have to believe that you were sent here for a reason, and even if it takes the rest of your life, you owe it to yourself to find out what that reason is,” says Jonathan.
Clark appears to take those words to heart. We see him trying to fly under the radar in various parts of the country, but danger always seems to follow him and put him in a position to play savior.
Soon his existence catches the attention of another Krypton-bred super-being, General Zod. “I will find him!” threatens the villain as he demands that humans hand over Superman.
We even get a few hints about the hero’s Fortress of Solitude and his archenemy, Lex Luthor. (If you look closely at 2:18 of the trailer, you’ll catch a glimpse of the LexCorp skyscraper).
We also get a preview of the budding relationship between Clark and Lois Lane. The reporter is inexplicably chosen to question the superhero after he allows himself to be captured. She asks about the “S” on his chest. “It’s not an S,” he replies. “On my world, it means hope.”
It seems that Snyder and company have finally found the right mix of elements to pull in audiences. Are you excited yet?
Man of Steel hits theaters June 14.
