Mark Wahlberg Might Star in Action Flick ‘Mile 22’
Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations with the new film and TV studio STX to star in the action movie Mile 22. Wahlberg will be working alongside Iko Uwais (The Raid: Redemption) and UFC champion-turned-actress Ronda Rousey, who recently appeared in two high-profile films, Furious 7 and Entourage.
The story centers on a CIA agent (Wahlberg), who must transport a compromised informant from the center of the city to a getaway plane at an airport 22 miles away. The trip is anything but smooth. It turns out to be a dicey, action-packed 22 miles, with crime overlords, rogue cops and heavily armed locals all determined to take out the duo before they reach the plane.
Lone Survivor actor/writer/director Peter Berg is negotiating to direct Mile 22. Berg’s most recent credits include Dwayne Johnson’s new HBO series, Ballers.
The screenplay was written by Graham Roland, known mainly for writing the TV shows Lost and Fringe and the horror series The Returned.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted Berg praising STX chairman Adam Fogelson and others involved in the project, saying: “I have had a working relationship with Adam Fogelson that dates back longer than almost any other relationship I have in this town. I consider him a genuine talent with a strong understanding of the business. He’s not only a trusted creative collaborator, but a true friend. Mark Wahlberg and I are thrilled to have this project with Adam and the team at STX, and we are excited to be working with Iko Uwais and Ronda Rousey to create a fresh and daring new take on the action genre.”
