The NFL’s most prolific active playoff running back will not be suiting up this weekend. According to the Seattle Seahawks’ official site and Twitter feed, Marshawn Lynch, who leads all active running backs with 917 rushing yards and 9 TDs, has been ruled out for the Seahawks’ Wild Card game against the Vikings on Sunday. In a surprise move, Lynch did not travel with the team to Minnesota. This is an odd development because Lynch had been declared fully healthy and ready to go earlier in the week. However, following the team’s final practice on Friday, Lynch told the team he could not play on Sunday. There doesn’t appear to have been any setback in Lynch’s health over the course of Friday’s practice, making the situation even more bizarre.

Lynch had been out of action for the previous seven weeks with an abdominal injury, but he was a full participant in practice all week. During a local Seattle radio show this week, head coach Pete Carroll went so far as to state that Lynch was a lock to play.
