Matt Damon Set to Star in Big Screen Comedy ‘Downsizing’
Matt Damon will star in the upcoming feature film comedy from 20th Century Fox titled Downsizing. The movie was written by Alexander Payne (I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry). Payne and his collaborator, Jim Taylor, have been trying to get it off the ground for the past five years. The two have worked together on a long line of memorable films, including 2004’s Sideways, which earned them an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
Although it has taken awhile to get this project moving, it’s not for lack of interest from big name stars. Well before Damon signed on, several other popular actors were considering leading roles, including Sacha Baron Cohen, Paul Giamatti and Reese Witherspoon.
True to its title, Downsizing is about a guy, desperate to change his bad luck, who concludes that his life will improve if he goes through a process to shrink himself. The story sounds like a wacky sci-fi comedy, but it also has dramatic elements, and the comedy is more like social satire.
Despite Damon’s busy schedule, he is making time for this project. In order to do it, he reportedly turned down the chance to star in the upcoming Chinese epic The Great Wall in order.
Damon can currently be seen in the high profile Christopher Nolan adventure pic, Interstellar.
