McG Expected to Direct Horror Comedy ‘The Babysitter’
Director McG is about to tackle the coming-of-age horror comedy The Babysitter. The filmmaker is best known for action movies like Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation, and more recently 3 Days to Kill. The new film appears to be a departure from the big budget projects he is used to participating in. He is in final negotiations to direct the picture and is also set to produce via his Wonderland Sound & Vision banner.
The story centers on a 12-year-old boy and his babysitter during one crazy night when things go very wrong. Amid the evening’s misadventures, the boy manages to learn a few lessons.
The movie is based on a 2014 Blacklist script by Brian Duffield, best known for Insurgent. Duffield is also set to co-executive produce The Babysitter.
After winning the rights in a bidding war, McG was originally planning just to produce this hot property; but according to Variety he “decided to add directing to his duties on the project in order to realize his vision for the script.”
Recently, the filmmaker’s most exciting projects have been episodes of various TV series, including pilots for The Mysteries of Laura and Kevin From Work, as well as the upcoming pilot for the highly anticipated ABC Family series Shadowhunters, based on Cassandra Clare’s bestselling YA fantasy books, The Mortal Instruments.
