Meet Kiyaunta Goodwin: The 6-foot-5, 350-Pound Middle Schooler Who Already Has an SEC Offer
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 350 pounds, Kiyaunta Goodwin is bigger than your average NFL offensive lineman.
The scary part is that he’s still in middle school.
Goodwin, who will be an 8th grader at Olmsted Academy North (Louisville, Kentucky) this fall, is just 13 years old. That didn’t stop the University of Kentucky from offering him a football scholarship earlier this week.
Definitely NOT your average 13-year-old…

Goodwin’s mammoth size is obviously his biggest drawing point, but it’s what he does with it that has college coaches so excited. It typically takes athletes who grow this big this young years to adjust to their body, but Goodwin already possesses impressive agility and coordination.
His athleticism can be attributed to his training routine. Goodwin works out at Aspirations Fitness Institution (Jeffersonville, Indiana) under the watchful eye of trainer Chris Vaughn. “He moves his feet extremely well for his size and is freakishly athletic,” Vaughn recently told MaxPreps.com. “His hands are enormous, and he’s very strong. Once he gets his hands on you, it’s over.”
Goodwin’s teammates have dubbed him “Syrup” because of his knack for flattening defenders with pancake blocks.
In addition to Kentucky, Goodwin’s reportedly drawn interest from teams such as Oregon, Purdue, Wisconsin and Florida State. Doctors have told him he could eventually grow to be as tall as 7-foot-6. “He’s still a raw talent with enormous upside. He also has members in his family as tall as 6-foot-10. The sky is truly the limit for him. You just don’t see kids like Kiyaunta at his age,” Vaughn says.
Goodwin isn’t counting on a career in the NFL just yet, however. He plays the clarinet, has an interest in robotics and would like to study engineering in college. A great athlete with a strong back-up plan—that’s a concept we can get behind.
