Mike Tyson Joins Cast of ‘Ip Man 3’
Word is out that boxing legend turned entertainer Mike Tyson has joined the cast of the martial arts film Ip Man 3. Tyson’s role is said to be a prominent one. He will be playing a property developer who also happens to be a street fighter.
Tyson said in a statement: “Who is the best boxer and kung fu master in China? Wait for me, I am coming. Thank you for introducing me to Chinese kung fu.”
Ip Man was a Chinese martial artist who made the close range combat practice of Wing Chun popular, opening schools to teach the discipline in 1949. One of his most famous students was the iconic Bruce Lee, who went on to develop the discipline Jeet Kune Do. One of the most interesting things about this film is that producers are planning to use computer graphics to re-create an authentic Lee in the movie, because they couldn’t find an actor who could duplicate his onscreen intensity.
Producer Raymond Wong feels the time is right for this sequel. He was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter saying, “The audience suffered Ip Man fatigue for a while, but the waves of Ip Man films has calmed down now, so now is the time to present our third installment.”
“Ip Man 3” is tentatively planned for release in 3D in early 2016.
