Watch Minnesota’s Nikola Pekovic Throw Medicine Balls Into Outer Space
Nikola Pekovic is a giant of a man. He looks like a grizzly bear fused with a lumberjack, so it should come as no surprise that he gets loose and ready for games by throwing medicine balls halfway up to the roof of the Toronto Raptors’ home arena. Yet, watching the Minnesota Timberwolves’ center launch the 3-pound balls into the stands is still a sight to behold.
[youtube video=”WvDh82wbPA4″ /]Videos of Pek’s throws showed up on the Timberwolves’ social media accounts. The balls were landing 15 or 20 rows back, where vice president of sports performance Arnie Kander retrieved them. The Wolves said the exercise is designed to get Pek’s heart rate up.
The exercise started out with Pekovic on the court near the sideline and Kander in the stands. Kander moved back a row or two after each throw until he was about 20 rows up, which looked like it might be Pek’s max for the day.
Pek was ruled out of Monday’s game against the Toronto Raptors as he recovers from surgery on his right Achilles tendon. Based on this footage, the rest of his enormous frame is doing just fine, thank you.
