Volleyball Duo Misty May-Treanor & Kerri Walsh Train for a Three-Peat in London
Two Olympic gold medals are not enough for beach volleyball superstars Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. They are currently gearing up to capture their third gold at the 2012 London Games, now less than 30 days away.
STACK recently met up with the dynamic duo at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI), where they laid everything on the table. Because they’re now a little older than most of their opponents, May-Treanor talked about how important it is for them to “go above and beyond…to keep improving each time we step on the court.”
Walsh talked about the nutrition education she got at GSSI, which is helping her get her body ready for Olympic competition. “I wasn’t eating enough carbohydrates prior to practice, and that was leaving me a little bit short during my training sessions. And then after, I wasn’t consuming enough protein, so I was not allowing myself to recover after a tough workout. Those are two simple things I could fix that are going to make a big difference for me.”
